Dayton Daily News published a series of articles entitled “Mental Health Matters: Kids in Crisis” in the Fall of 2024. For their story article about suicide, reporters Eileen McClory and Samantha Wildow chose to focus on the people who are left behind after a suicide to try to prevent further suicide contagion, or the idea that specific ways of discussing suicide can cause others to attempt suicide. They interviewed GEM Team Member Reese Hornick, who shared the story of the loss of her friend in 7th grade and why she is now so passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide prevention.
